Free Spirit Reiki

Free Spirit Reiki...

The literal translation of Reiki  (pronounced 'ray-key'), from the Japanese, is ‘spiritual energy’. It is also known in the West as ‘universal life force energy’, the energy found in all things.

The practice of Reiki enhances ones ability to tap into that energy to potentially bring balance, peace, energy and relaxation. It is a simple, natural treatment that can be done anywhere and can be learned by anyone.  Reiki is learned through a Reiki Master who provides a series of 'attunements' which creates a clearer channel for this energy to flow.
The underlying philosophy of Reiki is that if a person’s ‘life force energy’ is low, they are more likely to be unwell or stressed. If it is high, however, they are more capable of being happy and feeling well. Reiki will not cure illnesses or disease but it may help your body to heal itself. Reiki can do no harm.

Reiki is not a religion – there is nothing you have to believe in to use or receive Reiki. Reiki is not an ‘alternative’ therapy – it is a ‘complementary’ therapy in that it works alongside other medical and therapeutic techniques.

History of Reiki

Hands-on healing has been around for millenia and has been known in many cultures. The Usui system of Reiki was developed in Japan by Mikao Usui, a Tendai Buddhist monk, at the beginning of the 20th century. It was introduced to the West in 1938 by a Japanese-American woman, Hawayo Takata.

Releasing the body’s energy flow

Reiki aims to release the body’s energy flow. Compare the body’s energy to a river. Our energy should flow easily down through the body. Occasionally a pebble, or even a rock, will fall into that river and make the flow of the water a little more difficult. These pebbles are human worries, fears and anger. Each pebble builds on top of the other. Soon there is only a trickle of water running in that once free-flowing river.

At this point, stress or physical pain may be felt. A Reiki treatment aims to help the body release its own energy.

The procedure

In general, a Reiki procedure will involve the following:

You will be asked to lie on a couch or sit in a chair.

The practitioner places their hands on or just above your body in sequences of positions.

Unlike massage, a Reiki treatment does not involve any form of physical manipulation.

You do not need to remove any clothing and no private parts of your body are touched.

During a treatment you may feel warmth or cold, a tingling sensation, slight twitching or a rumbling tummy, or you may feel absolutely nothing.

A complete Reiki session can last from 60 to 90 minutes.

My Journey with Reiki

I completed the First Degree of Reiki in September 1996.  When I signed up for the class, I did not really know what Reiki was, I just felt called to do it.  I felt an alignment with it and wanted to go further so in January 1997, I took the Second Degree course.  I worked part time as a Reiki practitioner and part time as a Personal Fitness Trainer (I loved the balance of working with the Spiritual energy and the physical energy!)  In December that same year, I gave birth to our first child and felt the presence of Reiki during the birth and along my parenting path.

In 2001 we had another child and I continued to use Reiki in everyday life to assist in maintaining my own balance and the harmony of my children.  There were times that I would get so caught up in parenting and the tiredness of being with young children that I forgot to take care of myself with Reiki.  When I would realise that and get back to regular balancing, my whole life became calmer again.  I felt like the calm within the storm and as I radiated that calmness, it rippled out to affect those around me.

In December 2003, I finished my Reiki Master attunement and my life has since shifted in numerous ways.  We had another child, and moved from the USA back to my homeland, Australia.  We've travelled and lived simply in a camper and my life has expanded immensely with joy!

I have not promoted myself as a Reiki Master.  The "Master" title was one I was unsure I was worthy of.  The ceremony to initiate me to that level was very moving and powerful.  I felt large white angel wings coming from my back and a definite message that I was, indeed, worthy.  It was afterwards that my head got in the way.  I did not feel like a "Master".  I felt as though I still had so much to learn and I did not want others to think that I was superior to them by using that title.

I still do not feel like an absolute authority on Reiki, but I have come to be incredibly comfortable in my own expression and use of the beautiful energy.  My essence is peaceful and humble and I wrap that with my love, light and intuition to the style that I have called Free Spirit Reiki.  My own teachers were from very traditional Usui lines and I have blended that with my own touches.
I believe that anyone that will benefit from my Reiki services, will be attracted to me.

My priority is my family and homeschooling my three children.  We live near the beach and other beautiful, natural areas that we love to explore.   Our lives are woven with depth and richness of experiences rather than material things.

Services I offer

Reiki is always with me and always available.   When I am sitting on the beach, or hiking through the rainforest, or lying awake in the middle of the night, I connect more strongly to Source and choose these kind of moments to send Reiki to those who have asked for it.  I also send Reiki to other situations in the world that I feel drawn to.

  • I offer a mobile Reiki treatment service where I come to you with my table and soft music and a desire to help you in whatever way is for your Highest Good.  I work with all ages and I also enjoy working with your companion animals.

Recommended treatment time for adults is 60 minutes.  $60
Children and pets 15-30 minutes.  $20

I offer Reiki classes for you to become more attuned to the Reiki energy:
  • With Reiki Level 1, you are able to have the Reiki energy more accessible to treat yourself, family, friends and animals.  Class includes discussion on Reiki, meditation, attunement, practice time, sharing.  Full day $100
  • With Reiki Level 2, you deepen the the connection and learn some of the sacred symbols which assist in sending Reiki long-distance.  This takes you to practitioner level.  Class includes discussions including chakras, colours and crystals, meditation, attunement, practice working with the symbols, sharing.  Full day $200
I am available to all of my students after the classes for any questions, discussion or sharing of Reiki.

I have found Reiki to be such a beautiful, powerful and useful tool in my own life, and able to be used in any situation.  If you feel drawn to it, or would like to have more information, please email me:  freespiritjoy(at)gmail.com
